Homestudy - COMPLETE!!

Ahhh, I am breathing so much easier now! Our social worker was here from about 10-1, and in that time she walked through the entire house and we chatted about parenting in the kitchen. Walking her through the house was more like when a friend who hasn't been to our place before comes over and we show them around. She played with our kitty and complemented on my decorating and color choices (she loved the aqua, so there!).

She said it would take 4-6 weeks for our approval to be written and processed, and then after that our profile can be shown to birthparents! During the next 4-6 weeks, we need to get our profile done, which is a scrapbook showing pictures of us, friends, family, hobbies, etc and just telling our story. Of course I am excited to do it!

The only down side of the the morning was that I found out that the average wait in adoption is a year from APPROVAL, not application. I was thinking we would most likely have a baby by June, but it's more like next Christmas. However, a year is the longest wait for people in our position, so it still could be before that. Who knows. I am a little disappointed, but at the same time I have incredible peace resting in God's timing.

So, now we are going to go to Baby's R Us for fun! :)

  2. Yay! Now is the one-year estimate until the baby is born, or until you're matched? Are the adoptive parents and birth parents usually matched early or late in the pregnancy? Because if you get matched next June with someone who is eight months pregnant, that's a whole different ball game than getting matched next October with someone who is three months pregnant.

And be careful: Babies R Us can be a very dangerous place. Very dangerous. :-)

  3. I think it's a year till placement. I could be wrong though. I think we're going to start a registry at BRU...too soon? Who cares?

  4. You can always register and use the excuse that, as far as you know, you could have a baby three months from now! Granted, it probably won't be that fast . . . but it's a good excuse. :-)

  6. So in telling your story, how far back do you have to go? Like you went to Garden Spot High School? and how much detail do you need to give? Like you rocked out in Marching Band as part of B.O.B. with your mad tuba skills?

just wondering! anyway, i have really enjoyed reading about your experience going through the process of adoption, i am happy that everything is going well and i hope that God's timing suites you just right!
